Beyond the Clinic<\/h2>\n

In addition to the robust clinical training that UT Health San Antonio psychiatry offers, the program also provides ample opportunities for residents to engage in research, community service, advocacy, leadership and career development. Residents have protected elective time for 3 full months in their second year, one half day each week throughout their third year, and 5 full months in their fourth year during which to pursue such opportunities.<\/p>\n

Residents who desire more time and support for clinical research can apply for the Residency Research Track, which provides up to 40% of their total training time for research during PGY2 \u2013 PGY4 years, as well as faculty mentorship and training in research methodology.<\/p>\n

Travel to national and local conferences is a wonderful educational and networking experience that is encouraged by the program. UT Health Psychiatry, the GME office for UTHSCSA, and the Air Force all provide funding opportunities to help residents with travel costs, registration fees, and other expenses associated with attending conferences.<\/p>\n
