During a four-week radiology elective rotation, medical students will see a wide variety of clinical cases involving different subspecialties of radiology and learn how a radiologist play a pivotal role in patient management. Additionally, continuous interaction with residents, fellows, and faculty will help medical students understand the radiologist\u2019s lifestyle and what they can expect if they pursue a career in interactive case-based lectures on topics pertinent to radiology<\/p>\n<h3>Third Year Students<\/h3>\n<p>Faculty mentoring and guidance provided to medical students in the selection of medical specialty<\/p>\n<h3>Fourth Year Students<\/h3>\n<p>Four didactics courses provided to 4th-year students who will be interns the following year. Electives available for MS4 are a one-month diagnostic radiology elective, pediatric radiology elective, breast imaging elective, or special topics radiology elective. Elective courses offer rotations through clinical specialty areas, online reading, and imaging education.<\/p>\n<h3>Additional Program Opportunities<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Radiology Interest Group (RIG) \u2013 open to (MS 1-4):<\/strong>\u00a0The Radiology Interest Group (RIG) for medical students was formulated in conjunction with the medical student division. The RIG is an official UT Health San Antonio student group that welcomes all medical students who have an interest in Radiology. Meetings are held monthly and provide educational opportunities for interactive discussions between medical students and radiology residents and faculty. Invited speakers lecture on topics that are relative to the professional growth and education of future radiologists and medical physicians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shadowing in the Department (MS 1-4):<\/strong> The Department of Radiology welcomes medical students who would like to shadow within the Department for a few hours during the day. A shadowing policy and agreement will need to be signed before medical students can proceed. If you are interested in shadowing, contact the program coordinator for availability.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Visiting Students<\/h3>\n<p>A visiting student is a non-UT Health San Antonio student enrolled at another institution of higher education (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uthscsa.edu\/medicine\/education\/ume\/student-affairs\/student-wellness\/visiting-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visiting Medical Student Program<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visiting Medical Students \u2013 Away Rotations:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Eligibility criteria and application process information are available at the Long School of Medicine visiting students page.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth year students at qualifying medical schools may complete a 4-week sub internship based on availability. We offer two didactics electives, one-month general diagnostic radiology elective and mammography radiology elective.
