[vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text css=””]We are approved for six residents in years PGY-2 to PGY-5. \u00a0Residents rotate through site-specific services under direct supervision of an attending physician for 3 month blocks. A wide variety of electives are available including department-specific rotations, blocks at other academic institutions, or international electives. Physics and radiation biology courses are offered annually in preparation for board exams. We also have a robust clinical lecture program and monthly journal clubs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinical training primarily occurs in outpatient clinics of the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The program is affiliated with MD Anderson Cancer Center with access to their didactic lectures, quality assurance conferences, and extensive resources. Inpatient consultations occur primarily at University Hospital and Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are regularly scheduled multidisciplinary tumor boards for subsites including Musculoskeletal, CNS, Pediatric, Gynecologic, Breast, Head and Neck, Thoracic, Genitourinary, Hematologic, Gastrointestinal, Pancreatic, and Liver. Our clinics provide exceptional training in all disease sites as well as specialty practices in brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, pediatric oncology, and radiosurgery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents are required to formally participate in at least one research project during their years of training. Approved projects provide three months of protected research time with additional time available for academically motivated individuals. Residents are encouraged to present results at national meetings and to seek publication in peer reviewed journals. Residents are also involved in recruitment and management of patients in institutional and national cooperative group clinical research trials.<\/span><\/p>\n
