Basic, Translational and Clinical Research<\/h3>\n

The Department of Surgery at UT Health San Antonio conducts research of a translational nature in both basic and clinical sciences. The research is multidisciplinary and includes investigators with specialties in surgery, medicine, pre-hospital care, physiology, cell and molecular biology, biomedical engineering and surgical education. A combined team effort and integrative approach by our researchers contributes to improved procedures for training, diagnosis and treatment that ultimately contribute to decreased complications, morbidity and mortality in our patient population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Research Interest<\/h3>\n

Although the research interests in the department are multifaceted, particular areas of interest include the immunopathology of trauma, wound healing and regenerative medicine, surgical education, cancer biology and epidemiology, bioinformatics and prehospital and critical care. Our research endeavors are funded by the NIH, Department of Defense and other sources. <\/span><\/p>\n

Research Training<\/h3>\n

The Department of Surgery at UT Health San Antonio has a strong and long-lasting commitment to the training of surgical residents, fellows and students in translational research applicable to the field of surgery. Our fellows, residents and\u00a0students have presented at prestigious conferences and meetings, both nationally and internationally and received numerous awards.<\/span><\/p>\n
