Tatiana C.P. Cardenas, M.D., MS<\/h3>\n

Dr. Cardenas was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Miami, Florida. She attended The University of Miami in Miami, Florida, where she earned her B.S. in Microbiology and Immunology in 2005. She completed her medical school training at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in 2012. In addition to a medical degree, she earned a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Microbiology\/Immunology and was also inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society at Meharry Medical College. Dr. Cardenas then entered into general surgical residency at UT Health San Antonio in 2012 and participated in multiple leadership roles including being chosen as one of two administrative chiefs during her chief year. Dr. Cardenas completed her General Surgery Residency at UT Health San Antonio in June 2017 and went on to begin her Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio in August 2017. Dr. Cardenas is also a Specialist (clinical instructor) within the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery.<\/p>\n

Rachel J. Cobos, M.D., MPH<\/h3>\n

Dr. Cobos was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. She spent the majority of her childhood in Indonesia. She attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas where she earned a BA in English and Biology in 2008. During college, she spent the summer of 2007 working with a local physician and visiting surgeon in a hospital in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo further cementing her desire to become a doctor. Dr. Cobos attended medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock where she earned her MD in 2012. Dr. Cobos has an interest in helping underserved populations around the world and went on a medical mission trip after her first year of medical school in 2009 to the Himchal Pradesh region of India. During the end of her medical school and beginning of her residency, she obtained her Master of Public Health with a certification in Global Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 2014. Dr. Cobos completed her General Surgery Residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2017 and recently began her Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio where she also serves as a Specialist (clinical instructor) in the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery. She enjoys traveling and spending her free time with her husband and children.<\/p>\n

Douglas M. Pokorny, D.O.<\/h3>\n

Dr. Pokorny was born in Lemoore, California. As the son of a Naval aviator, he spent his early life moving all around the country. He attended the University of Florida where he earned a degree in Health Science Education while playing offensive line for the Gator football team. In 2007, he was commissioned into the United States Navy as an Ensign through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. Dr. Pokorny completed his medical school training at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at their Bradenton, Florida campus. Upon graduating from medical school, he reported to the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia for residency training. After completing his residency in General Surgery in 2016, Dr. Pokorny immediately deployed to the Arabian Gulf onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While deployed, he served as the sole surgical support to Carrier Strike Group Ten. Upon returning, he transitioned back to full-time training and began his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio where he also serves as adjunct clinical faculty in the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery. Dr. Pokorny is also a teaching fellow in surgery and on track to become an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.<\/p>\n
