Dr. Lopera rekindled clinical research in the interventional radiology department and leads by example. While covering clinical duties, I have developed more confidence in interventional radiology including angiogram to treat traumatic bleeding. I have seen him develop a research program without many resources from a single idea of a flow model and run experiments with liver and kidneys to test different hypothesis regarding ablation in the field of interventional radiology. With that one idea, a few other residents have worked to enlist many medical students to assist with various projects, for up to 23 submissions to national conference. He is excellent and deserving of this award.
