2022 STAR Educator Recipient: Justin Mascitelli, MD, FAANS
Justin R. Mascitelli, MD, FAANS
Assistant Professor
Department of Neurosurgery
Nomination Submission:
Dr. Mascitelli takes resident education seriously. He has singlehandedly re-vamped our vascular neurosurgery teaching sessions and takes the time to explain topics that are useful for interns to seventh year residents. He is always available for questions and puts patient care first. He is available to help operate whether he is on call or not and his surgical skills are exemplary. It is an honor to work with him and learn from him during residency.
As a junior attending Dr. Mascitelli joined the department and revitalized education for the neurosurgery residents. He has prepared and presented dozens of topics on skull base approaches and open and endovascular neurosurgery. Aside from managing a busy cerebrovascular practice, he has added and leads a weekly multidisciplinary cerebrovascular conference, and sets aside time every Monday for additional neurosurgery resident educational rounds. He meets with mentees regularly to discuss and aid both academic and non-academic pursuits. He is an exemplary and compassionate physician who we are honored to have in our department.
