2022 STAR Educator Recipient: Miguel Palacios, MD
Miguel A. Palacios, MD
Assistant Professor
Department of Family & Community Medicine
Nomination Submission:
Dr. Palacios deserves this award as he excels in practicing full-scope family medicine, teaching residents and medical students both in the outpatient and inpatient settings, paying particular attention to our disadvantaged patient population. Dr. Palacios played a pivotal role during the COVID pandemic in adapting clinical operations to fulfill residency training requirements. He has been providing timely COVID updates and CDC/UHS recommendations. He implemented a triage protocol based on the acuity and severity of patients’ complaints which allowed us to care for our patients and protect ourselves before vaccines were available. He was also instrumental in the Epic transition and had trained and taught many residents and other clinical staff how to navigate the new EMR system.
His passion for patient care and teaching and his expertise in specific areas of family medicine, such as psychotropic clinic, MSK concerns, and women’s health is evident. We can always rely on him to get the most appropriate solutions to patient’s concerns right away. He is the quintessential role model of a family medicine doctor: down to earth, empathetic, culturally sensitive, taking care of everybody, including children, women, and the elderly.
