Associate Professor
Department of Medicine
Division of Hospital Medicine

Nomination Submission:
Dr. Nathanson has truly excelled as an educator within the Department of Medicine for the past eight years. I remember one of his resident learners being amazed at how knowledgeable Dr. Nathanson was, no matter what subject he taught about during rounds. When I asked, hoping to emulate him, the learner described him as thoughtful, deliberate, and persistent. He has a rigorous approach of selecting a few teaching points from active patient problems, then guides his learners to reach their own conclusions promoting active learning. He makes this seem effortless and integrates it seamlessly during rounds, but it reflects meticulous planning and self-directed learning.

Since he was selected as Chief Resident, Dr. Nathanson’s trajectory been clear. He has achieved marked depth and breadth mainly in the areas of bedside procedures and point of care ultrasound. He has led impactful educational projects such as the resident procedure team which he started that year and continues to direct. This remains one of the most valued rotations in the Internal Medicine residency program and always receives remarkable evaluations.

Dr. Nathanson is very dedicated to education, and advancing medical knowledge by educating through his magnificent ultrasound courses. He has brilliant ultrasound skills and knowledge. I have learned a lot with him, more than I could learn in such short peri
