Dr. Bartanusz is an exemplar of compassion, critical thinking, and evidence based medicine. While maintaining a busy spine based neurosurgery practice, he dedicates time for journal club, didactics, research and mentoring. He has developed Philosophers Corner which is a monthly meeting to discuss various philosophical subjects such as morality, and medical ethics. His diverse and expansive knowledge is precious to the neurosurgery department and school of medicine and we cannot think of anyone more selfless but deserving of the start educator award.
He encourages housestaff in terms of humanism, thoughtful ethics, patient-centered decision-making, conservative and surgical practice, and evidence based behaviors.
