Izabela Tarasiewicz, MD

Personal Statement:

Izabela Tarasiewicz, MD, FRCS(C), is a tenured professor of neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgeon at UT Health San Antonio and University Hospital. She joined the Department of Neurosurgery in 2015 and holds a cross appointment in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Pediatrics.

Dr. Tarasiewicz earned her medical degree from Université de Sherbrooke in Canada and completed her neurological surgery residency at Université Laval in Québec City. She subsequently completed a fellowship in pediatric neurological surgery at Northwestern University/Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago (now Lurie Children’s Hospital). She is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.

Her clinical expertise includes spinal dysraphism and congenital central nervous system malformations, spina bifida, spasticity, hydrocephalus, intracranial arachnoid cysts, pediatric neurotrauma, pediatric neuro-oncology, vascular malformations, and epilepsy. She serves as medical director of the nationally recognized Craniofacial Clinic and has established multidisciplinary programs in spina bifida and tethered cord care.

Dr. Tarasiewicz is deeply committed to research, medical education, and expanding access to pediatric neurosurgical care in South Texas and underserved regions worldwide. She is fluent in English, French, and Polish.
