Participation: The goal of the senior selective experience is to equip the student with skills necessary to master obtaining an appropriate ocular history and demonstrating the clinical skills required for a complete eye evaluation. From the history and clinical findings, the reader should be able to diagnose and manage or refer common ocular disorders. There will be an opportunity to observe ophthalmology faculty and residents performing examinations, consultations, minor procedures, laser procedures, and major operative surgeries in several subspecialties of ophthalmology.

Prerequisite: Third year Ophthalmology Clerkship required; arrangements with instructor on individual basis.
Mandatory Sessions / Conferences: The student will participate in all education activities as delineated on the program monthly calendar including conferences, Grand Rounds, and workshops. |

Course Description | |
Prerequisite: The student will actively participate in research activities within the Department of Ophthalmology at UT Health San Antonio. The student is expected to carry out a research project, which may be clinical or involve laboratory research. A logical and step-wise approach to research will be emphasized, from literature review, collection of data to analysis and a reporting of the results.
