Congratulations Roma Kaul!
Cell Systems and Anatomy IMGP Graduate Student Roma Kaul has been selected by the GSBS Award Committee to be the next Presidential Ambassador Scholar to represent the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Each year, the Graduate School selects a student to receive a UT Health San Antonio Presidential Ambassador Scholarship. The student is awarded $2,000 and will be asked to fulfill several requirements for one year beginning in April, 2017. Roma is a third year IBMS Cancer Biology Graduate Student, currently conducting research in the lab of Pharmacology Professor, Greehey Distinguished Chair in Targeted Molecular Therapeutics (GCCRI) and Co-leader of Experimental and Developmental Therapeutics (CTRC) Susan Mooberry, Ph.D..
Congratulations Denisse Paredes!
Neuroscience graduate student Denisse Paredes has been selected for a University of Texas Center for Learning and Memory (ACL&M) Spring 2017 Trainee Travel Award! The spring conference will be held April 28-29th, 2017 in Austin, Texas.
The UT Austin Conference on Learning and Memory (ACL&M) is a bi-annual conference that provides an exciting opportunity for neuroscientists to gather, share results and discuss new techniques, developments and directions in the neurobiology of learning and memory. ACL&M is a multidisciplinary, broadly based meeting on learning and memory with sessions covering molecular, synaptic, systems, computational and human studies. All interested attendees are welcome and graduate student and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to attend. To support trainees attending ACL&M, travel scholarships are offered to help graduate students and post docs defray travel costs and lodging.
The title of Denisse’s abstract is: ‘Developing sub-maximal fear extinction to model exposure therapy and adjunct treatment for psychiatric illnesses’. She is a member of the Morilak Research Group.
Congratulations Roma Kaul!
Congratulations to graduate student Roma Kaul for being selected by our internal faculty reviewers to be the UT Health San Antonio nominee to submit her grant to the Limited Funding Opportunities offered by the National Institute of Health (NIH)/National Cancer Institute (NCI) Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00)!
The NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition (F99/K00) Award supports outstanding Ph.D. and other Research Doctoral candidates complete their dissertation research training (F99 phase) and transition in a timely manner to mentored, cancer-focused postdoctoral career development research positions (K00 phase).
The title of Roma’s grant submission is: ‘Molecular Breast Cancer Theraputics: Staging my career as a multidisciplinary translational scientist’. The funding opportunity award announcement is expected this summer. Roma is conducting her research in the lab of Pharmacology Professor Susan Mooberry, Ph.D.
Congratulations Melodi Bowman!
Neuroscience graduate student Melodi Bowman will be honored at the Women’s Council Fall Luncheon, October 14th, 2016, for being selected as the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Council for Excellence in Women’s Health scholarship recipient for 2016.
The mission of the Council for Excellence in Women’s Health is to improve the physical and mental health of women in San Antonio and the scholarship provides support for students interested in women’s health. Melodi will be introduced to the Women’s Council members by one of the scholarship committee members and scholarship recipients will be asked to say a few words.
Melodi conducts her research in the lab of Physiology Professor Lynette Daws.
Congratulations Elizabeth Fucich!
Neuroscience graduate student Elizabeth Fucich has received the 2016 William Thomas Booth Memorial Travel Award!
