Therapy for Trauma in Teens and Adolescents:
A research/treatment program at UT Health San Antonio
Our program is providing a widely-used psychotherapy for adolescents and teens who have experienced a trauma. The therapy is provided by licensed clinicians at no-cost. The research aspect of the program is collecting MRI scans before, during, and after the therapy. The goal is to measure how the brain is changing throughout the therapy process, which will help us to understand how the brain recovers from trauma. MRI does NOT use radiation or injections.
The study includes:
- No-cost individual therapy once per week for 18 weeks;
- Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain scans 4-times during the 18 weeks;
- MRI is safe and does not use radiation or injections;
- Participants receive no-cost therapy, compensation, and a picture of their brain!
Requirements:
Must be ages 10-17, have experienced a trauma, and are having symptoms of posttraumatic stress, such as upsetting memories, trouble sleeping, or feeling irritable.
