Congratulations to Dr. Sandra G. Adams for receiving a Physicians Initiated Interprofessional Grant

Since that time, she has been actively involved in COPD and asthma research as a Principal Investigator and co-investigator for local, state and federally funded research projects.

Dr. Adams and has received multiple teaching awards throughout her career and is recognized by the Chancellor of the University of Texas System as a Distinguished Teaching Professor. Additionally, Dr. Adams received the Distinguished Scholar Award in Respiratory Health from the Chest Foundation in 2010 and the University of Texas Patient Safety Grant in 2012. These provided resources to develop web-based, interactive professional education programs in COPD and asthma to educate primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nurses, and social workers about COPD and asthma recognition, diagnosis and management.
In order to keep the material up to date and to expand the education to other diseases/conditions, Dr. Adams founded the not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), WipeDiseases Foundation in 2012. Her vision was to develop and maintain an up-to-date website that would offer digestible education to busy healthcare professionals who don’t have the time to be away from their practice or weed through journal articles to keep abreast of advancements in COPD and other pulmonary diseases.
At the inception, Dr. Adams envisioned designing online medical education that continually engaged learners by making them a part of the program and by encouraging them to interact with the educational content throughout the website. Through dedication to our vision and purpose and through generous donations in honor of the life of friends/family, Dr. Adams has been able to keep the wipediseases.org site current and up to date as well as expand and develop patient/caregiver education.
