Our History

The UT Health San Antonio Interstitial lung disease (ILD) program was founded in 2012 by its current director, Dr. Anoop Nambiar.  In 2015 the program was recognized  by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) as a Care Center Network Site, or an ILD Center of Excellence.  This is a distinct honor, received only by 68 centers in the U.S, and 5 in all of Texas.  We serve as the only ILD Center of Excellence for all South Texas.   The program was joined by Dr. Dean “Trey” Kellogg III in 2023.  The program contributes to the three pillars of academic medicine: patient care, research, and education.
