Vascular Surgery Fellowship
Program Overview
The Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at UT Health San Antonio is a 2-year fellowship at a state academic medical school. There are clinical rotations at five major affiliated sites paired with a strong didactic schedule, research opportunities, and mentorship. Our program offers a high volume of diverse cases with faculty that have trained across the country.
Fellows train across diverse patient populations encompassing veterans, trauma victims, and complex medical and surgical cases from a broad regional referral base. They manage a wide spectrum of vascular diseases including aneurysmal, extracranial carotid, peripheral arterial, cerebrovascular, and acute aortic pathologies, as well as limb salvage in diabetic patients and oncological vascular conditions. Our program provides exposure to both open and endovascular techniques, vascular trauma, thoracic outlet and spine exposures, that prepares fellows for an independent academic or private vascular surgical practice.
Diverse clinical training is complemented by a robust didactic curriculum built around the VSCORE framework and various textbooks. Fellows engage in conferences, journal clubs, quality improvement and risk management sessions, as well as RPVI prep ultrasound lectures. They also have access to online courses and exam preparation resources such as VESAP and Pegasus. Non-procedural education covers ethics, fatigue and sleep management, leadership development, and coding and billing. Fellows are encouraged to attend regional and national conferences to broaden their academic exposure and professional growth. Each trainee benefits from individualized mentorship—both professional and personal—from faculty with extensive clinical and research expertise.
Our experienced and well-published faculty bring a wealth of knowledge to the program. Together, we cultivate well-rounded surgical leaders fully prepared to excel in any practice setting upon graduation. The UT Health San Antonio Vascular Surgery Fellowship delivers a comprehensive foundation in vascular surgery and disease management, aligned with the highest standards of modern vascular practice.

I am excited and honored to be the Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at UT Health San Antonio. It is no secret that vascular patients are among the sickest encountered by physicians in their training and practice. We are prepared to meet the challenges and provide the best care possible for our patients. I am grateful to be part of a fantastic team dedicated to growing this program into a world-class training opportunity for those dedicating their lives to care of patients with vascular disease. We look forward to training the next group of exuberant learners!
