Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Education

The education programs of the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Program provide ACGME and CME activities for medical students, surgical residents, vascular fellows, mini-fellows and the community physicians.

Medical Student Education

The Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division offers rotations to 3rd and 4th year medical students, which encompasses both inpatient operative and outpatient experience. We offer separate didactic and practical education programs on this rotation to ensure that the Medical students get access to basic knowledge and skills to support their clinical activities. The program supports the Vascular Surgery Interest Group at Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.

Ultrasound Vascular Technologists

The Vascular Labs of the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division regularly takes Ultrasound students into the outpatient and inpatient labs and provide education and hands on training linked to a weekly didactic conference for candidate technologists and is a highly prized rotation.

The Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division takes R1, R2, R4 and R5 level General Surgery Residents for Training. The residents participate on rotations through Vascular Surgery (R1 R2 and R4) at the University Hospital, St Luke’s Baptist and at the VA Medical Center services. A separate series of lectures in fundamental and clinical topics and clinical indications case conference are provided and supplements the weekly CME approved conference.

Vascular Surgery Fellowships accept ABS Board eligible candidates and provide trainees with a comprehensive experience in Open and Endovascular surgery. The Vascular surgery Fellowship is based at the University Hospital and rotates residents to St Luke’s Baptist Hospital and the VA Medical Center.
