UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital:
Opened in 2024, this state-of-the-art facility is UT Health San Antonio’s academic hospital. The hospital’s academic setting, combined with access to the adjacent Mays Cancer Center, supports complex case management and multidisciplinary collaboration. With a focus on innovation, precision care, and research, the hospital provides vascular surgery fellows with complex patient populations in a modern facility.
University Health System:
University Hospital is a nationally recognized teaching hospital and the region’s only Level I trauma center for adults and children. Serving a 22-county region, the trauma center provides 24/7 care to critically injured patients, staffed by UT Health faculty and residents. All surgical staff are full-time UT Health faculty, ensuring high-quality academic mentorship and clinical expertise.
University Health features a hybrid operating suite dedicated to a full range of open and percutaneous endovascular procedures, as well as an IAC-accredited vascular laboratory located within the vascular center. The hospital’s modern 713-bed facility includes specialized ICUs, and a cardiac catheterization lab with full interventional capabilities. The Sky Tower, a million-square-foot patient-centered facility, houses advanced endovascular suites and robotic surgical systems that support high-acuity surgical care. In partnership with UT Health San Antonio, it offers a robust environment for advanced clinical training, research, and innovation. The recent addition of the 290 bed Women and Children’s Tower has expanded capacity. There will also be two new facilities opening in 2027, each with over 285 beds.
Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital:
Located directly across the street from the medical school, Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital is a vital training site for vascular surgery fellows. It provides an older patient population with complex medical and surgical conditions, offering extensive exposure to complex vascular cases, including peripheral arterial disease, aneurysmal disease, and dialysis access management.
There is a dedicated hybrid operating suite and an in-clinic vascular laboratory that has outstanding seasoned vascular lab techs.
St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital:
Located in the South Texas Medical Center, St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital has been serving the San Antonio community since 1978. As part of the Baptist Health System and affiliated with UT Health San Antonio, it is a key training site for vascular surgery fellows with Dr. Toursarkissian in the VISA private practice group. With approximately 3,600 elective procedures performed annually, fellows benefit from high case volumes and a diverse patient population.
The hospital features advanced facilities including hybrid operating rooms, an accredited Chest Pain Center, a Level III neonatal ICU, and the city’s first Comprehensive Stroke Center. These resources support a wide range of surgical specialties and provide fellows with exposure to complex cardiovascular and cerebrovascular cases. St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital offers a dynamic and supportive environment.
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills:
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills is a 150-bed acute care facility located in San Antonio’s rapidly growing West Side. It is part of the non-profit Catholic CHRISTUS Health System and has an affiliation with UT Health San Antonio. It is the main private practice location for the UT Health faculty with a surprisingly complex patient census.
