Dr. Hussain is an avid advocate for patient care and is passionate about teaching learners. At every opportunity, he shares his wisdom from a long career with students and residents. He takes opportunities to engage learners at all levels and of all disciplines that rotate within the Anesthesiology department to share relevant clinical pearls that will help them within their respective fields. Dr. Hussain is well-known for his generosity and provides meals with his personal funds frequently for staff and learners. Most recently, Dr. Hussain mentored and tutored our residency representatives at the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists resident Jeopardy. Our team successfully won the competition for the first time in several years, in part due to his fervent mentorship.
I wholeheartedly nominate Dr. Mahammad Hussain for the STAR Educator award in recognition of his outstanding mentorship and contributions to medical education. As a medical student with an interest in anesthesia but lacking exposure to the field, Dr. Hussain played a pivotal role in introducing me to the field and shaping my academic journey. His approachability and eagerness to serve as a mentor were evident from our first interaction. Dr. Hussain went above and beyond to introduce me to the ins and outs of anesthesia, patiently answering questions and providing invaluable insights along the way. His dedication to teaching is exceptional; he not only made the complex concepts accessible but also fostered a supportive learning environment. Whether it’s discussing the latest advancements in anesthesia or sharing stories from his own career, he sparks curiosity and enthusiasm among his mentees. His passion for the specialty is contagious and he has left me with a profound appreciation for the art and science of anesthesia. Dr. Hussain has been instrumental in my training. In the challenging and fast-paced world of medicine, having a mentor like Dr. Hussain is a privilege. His commitment to education has left a lasting mark on my medical journey, and I believe he exemplifies the qualities deserving of the STAR Educator award.
