Nomination Submission:
Dr. Marcy Wiemers is a role model for all residents. As one of the associate program directors of the UT Health San Antonio Family and Community Medicine Residency Program, she is an essential part of our residency program. She was one of the faculty I first met when I interviewed for the program, and instantly became inspired by her work ethic and compassion for patients. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Wiemers at the RBG Family Health Center, Kennedy clinic and with our inpatient service at University Hospital. She encourages and helps us to become better physicians with a focus on continuity of care. She is a strong advocate for women’s health, including preventative medicine, prenatal care, obstetrics and postpartum care. She is always working to bring new teaching experiences to residents, and found an opportunity for residents to start rotating at the Bexar County Jail in an effort to increase our exposure to women’s health and procedures. She has also volunteered at the El Bari clinic, which provides free healthcare to patients. Despite her many roles, Dr. Wiemers also makes time to advocate for resident wellness and hosts a Christmas Party for residents each year. I feel that Dr. Wiemers is more than deserving to be an LSOM Star of Education for her continued involvement in resident education, comprehensive patient care and altruistic activities in the community.
