Nomination Submission:

I’m delighted to nominate Dr. Luyang “Lu” Jin for the Long School of Medicine (LSOM) Academy of Educational Scholars (AES) Star Educator recognition.

Since joining the hospital medicine after residency, she has transitioned seamlessly to become a wonderful teaching faculty. She stands out as a physician who provides compassionate care with an excellent bedside manner, models an exceptional work ethic with dedication to her patients, and sets a great example for her peers and students alike.

As an active member of the teaching faculty for hospital medicine, she consistently displays a passion for teaching evidence-based medicine and fostering critical thinking while on service. In addition to attending general medicine wards, she is a core faculty for the high value care team, hospital medicine triage service, medical consults service, and point of care ultrasound (POCUS) elective.

She is a simulation and point of care ultrasound (POCUS) enthusiastic who is committed to guiding medical students and residents outside of their comfort zones to imbibe new skills, such as performing a large volume paracentesis for the first time, within the confines of a safe learning environment.

In addition to clinical practice and teaching at the graduate medical education level, she mentors medical students as a facilitator for clinical skills in which she helps to unlock the mysteries of physiology alongside medical students through sessions that establish foundational history and exam skills. She remains curious of the routine and the arcane, with enthusiasm for lifelong learning and refinement for herself and in others.
