Arianna Lewis, MD
Assistant Professor
Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Nomination Submission:
Dr. Lewis is an exemplary role model in my education and that of many others. Not only was she a fantastic educator in her lectures on the female reproductive module, but she has truly gone above and beyond in mentoring students. I am interested in improving healthcare equity for female patients, and every single time I have ever asked her for help, Dr. Lewis enthusiastically agreed and followed up on it! Dr. Lewis agreed to be our student organization faculty mentor, be the head mentor for our community service project, start an elective on women’s healthcare, and so much more. She is truly the epitome of mentorship in medicine and has done SO much to help medical students find our passions as future physicians and help us follow them. Dr. Lewis is also extremely generous with her time and enthusiastically allows first and second medical students to shadow her. Although her job is extremely difficult and time-consuming, she genuinely loves to teach, and it shows. She always is asking students if they are interested in obstetrics and enthusiastically invites them to join her to learn. I even know one student who was very lightly considering OBGYN as a specialty, but after shadowing Dr. Lewis and seeing how she talked with a patient through her C-section, the medical student went on to list OBGYN as her top choice of specialty. Lastly, Dr. Lewis shows humanism in medicine through encouraging a work-life balance for physicians. Dr. Lewis teaches CrossFit classes (and even donated free classes to students for a fundraiser) and continually encourages students to take care of their physical health and keep a work-life balance when in medical school and beyond. In conclusion, Dr. Lewis is exactly the type of physician, teacher, and mentor we need at our university, and has made profoundly positive impacts in both mine and dozens of others medical careers and lives.
