Nomination Submission:
Dr. Mansour is a master surgeon. He operates with incredible skill, has compassion for his patients, and joyfully teaches residents to master our craft. He loves the psychology of Csikszentmihalyi and strives to help the residents enter the “flow zone” in any surgery, a mindset where we are engaged and competent to take on the challenge at hand. In his own words, “Surgery is fun! Enjoy it!” His confident and joyful mentality is both inspirational and contagious, and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning from him over the past five years. He also has a passion for teaching his peers. Recently, he coordinated and taught the first Texas HoLEP Masterclass, an educational conference attended by urologists from all across the US and Mexico which helped the attendees master a unique surgical technique. This technique is usually considered very difficult to learn, leading many urologists to shy away from it, but Dr. Mansour was able to break down the surgery into 10 manageable steps to help his fellow colleagues gain confidence with these skills. I know many left the conference more confident in their ability to perform this surgery. Finally, Dr. Mansour is bursting at the seams with exciting ideas, leading him to be a prolific researcher. One particularly interesting idea is the HOPE trial which is investigating the possibility of treating certain prostate cancers with a new, less morbid, surgical technique. He is always willing to take medical students, residents, and fellows along with him on these journeys of discovery. I very much appreciate all he has done for me and for those around him in the time I have known him. He is an invaluable member of our residency, our institution, and our urology community at large, and I cannot think of a better candidate for this award.
