It is my honor to nominate Dr. Gabriel Medrano-Valle for the LSOM Stars of Education Award on behalf of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Medrano is a gifted clinician, mentor and role model to medical students, residents and junior faculty. He is kind, compassionate and his patients sincerely love him.  His learners describe him as approachable, relatable, and professional. Dr. Medrano is passionate about Obstetrics and Gynecology as a field and the education of medical students, and it shows in all that he does. His joy for his work is infectious. He advocates for both his students and patients tirelessly. One of his students writes “Dr. Medrano is the type of attending students pray to work with during their clinical experience. He took the time to teach and genuinely cares about the student’s learning and progress as a clinician.”  Dr. Medrano served as a Veritas Faculty Advisor from 2012-2019 and is the Faculty Advisor for the Obstetrics and Gynecology student interest group. He has been recognized with the APGO Excellence in Teaching award in both 2013 and 2017.  Dr. Medrano joined the clerkship leadership team as the Assistant Clerkship Director in 2019. He has taken on the responsibility of clerkship didactics and NBME review sessions. This year, with Dr. Medrano’s guidance we have instituted a brand-new student clinic. This clinic has quickly become a favorite allowing students to see patients under his direct supervision and gain experience with history taking, exam skills and clinical reasoning. One student writes “this clinic was easily the most impactful experience I had during my OBGYN rotation. Dr. Medrano taught me so much and really spent time relating to me as a person. He is a real gem.”  Dr. Medrano embodies the definition of a star educator.
