Assistant Professor
Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics

Nomination Submission:

I would like to nominate Dr. Nandini Mandlik for the honor of the 2022 Stars of Education. She embodies the qualities that are used to describe such stars. She is passionate about global health, whether it be through her medical mission work in Guatemala or through her “local global” work with medical student groups such as Frontera de Salud overseeing and guiding large sports physical fairs for underserved children, making it possible for them to participate in sports, which are so important not only for their physical health, but their mental and social health as well. She loves to share her passion and has gravitated toward opportunities which serve as a great venue for this. She graduated this year from the Pediatric Academic Society’s prestigious Educational Scholar’s Program, a national 3- year program aimed at enhancing educational excellence. Her project, “Development and evaluation of a local-global curriculum for pediatric residents, focusing on the migrant experience” ties directly with the “Migrant and International Health Pathway” which she has developed and directs for 2nd and 3rd year pediatric residents, –“focused on linking global health concepts, including health disparity, to daily and local patient care”. Additional outlets for sharing her passion have been the Global Health Advisory Committee and the Sub-committee for Faculty Development in Global Health, along with her membership in the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics and as a mentor for the Pediatric Interest Group.

Her curriculum and the activities she shares are innovative and inspiring; they motivate and drive the next generation to embrace and promote their humanism, diversity, equity and excellence and to further those qualities in others. Dr. Mandlik does not only teach this way of life, but lives and role models it on a daily basis, to her students, colleagues and to the world at large.
