Associate Professor
Department of Family and Community Medicine, Director of Behavioral Health Education, Family Medicine Residency

Nomination Submission:

Dr. Ogbeide is an associate professor, director of behavioral health education, in  the family medicine residency. She also serves as the primary care track coordinator for the psychology internship in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. I’m nominating her for the star of educator’s award as she is so dedicated to teaching and mentoring learners inside and outside of our institution. Her vast experience in behavioral health with a strong emphasis on evidence-based approaches is seamlessly aligned with family medicine ACGME competencies. She utilizes different modalities in her teaching, including online media resources, interactive role-plays, reflections, and formal lectures, which makes learning more fun and effective. The topics include effective communication skills, motivational interviewing, chronic pain management, etc., all of which are essential for primary care physicians.

Dr. Ogbeide is also our wellness committee supervisor, who advises and promotes resident wellness activities, and teaches us strategies to combat burnout. She is an excellent mentor to many of us. She is the go-to person for career advice. She incorporates her passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion into many things she does. She is an avid advocate for under-represented groups in various settings, including leadership positions, academic medicine, and community organizations. She is actively involved in community education and early career woman faculty development efforts through webinars, ECHO sessions, and public events, to name a few. It’s evident Dr. Ogbeide has and will leave a long-lasting impact on all the learners she teaches.
