Assistant Professor
Department of Pediatrics

Nomination Submission:

I would like to nominate Dr. Lindsey Cortes for the Star Educator Award. She has been a member of the Division of General Pediatrics, in the Department of Pediatrics since January of 2020. In that short period of time, she has made significant strides in developing her love of teaching. She has not hesitated nor faltered as she generously embraced the call to teach at various levels here at UT Health San Antonio. She serves as a Faculty Attending in the Pediatric Resident Continuity and Acute Care clinics, where she not only shares her bedside acumen with our pediatric residents and rotating third- and fourth- year medical students but has also authored excellent didactic continuity modules and has created and leads the very popular Practice Management Elective. This elective has been very formative for our residents, helping to prepare them for the next phase of their careers. She has shared her expertise in Practice Management and Billing and Coding with her fellow colleagues, as well as with Fellows within our department.  Dr. Cortes has also worked hard to bring pediatrics to life for the undergraduate students by giving lectures on Development. She has been instrumental in developing and leading the Resident Spanish Curriculum for the department, filling a great need, as many of the patients we care for are Spanish speaking only. Dr. Cortes serves as a pediatric advisor and mentor, providing positive guidance and a relatability that spurs the learners onward. Dr. Cortes perceives a need, envisions a solution and uses her talents to put that into motion, whether it is through creation of a new curriculum or just being present to those who need her.  I believe she emulates all that the LSOM Academy of Educational Scholars requires of a true Star Educator.
