Clinical Research Highlights: PCORI Eaglet and Placenta Accreta Studies

We would like to congratulate Crystal Manohar, MD, M.B.A., FASA and the UT San Antonio Department of Anesthesiology on being selected as a site for the multi-center PCORI Eaglet study. The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is funding this pragmatic, multicenter trial to compare the effectiveness of early general anesthesia versus intravenous sedation in improving patient-centered outcomes for patients experiencing pain during cesarean sections under neuraxial anesthesia.
The study is expected to begin in fiscal year 2026–2027. Being selected to participate in such a large-scale and impactful clinical trial is a significant achievement and highlights the department’s continued commitment to advancing patient care and anesthesiology research.
Dr. Manohar will also be collaborating with the UT San Antonio Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to review our institution’s experience with the placenta accreta population.
Both the PCORI Eaglet and the Placenta Accreta studies are exciting research opportunities, and we encourage any interested faculty members — especially those clinically involved in obstetrics — to contact Dr. Manohar to inquire about participating. These projects provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience and contribute to scholarly activity in support of academic promotion.
