UT San Antonio

Medical Student Education Program

The Department of Anesthesiology provides rotations for third and fourth year medical students with educational opportunites in clinical anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, chronic pain medicine, critical care medicine (VA SICU), and research in the SICU. The clinical experience is supplemented with a traditional lecture series as well as use of the anesthesia simulator.

The third year rotation occurs during the surgery clerkship. Because of the large number of students requesting Anesthesiology during the clerkship, the selection process is based on a lottery system. Application for the MS III rotation is processed through surgery and available to University of Texas at San Antonio UT San Antonio students only.

The fourth year rotation is open to University of Texas at San Antonio UT San Antonio students as well as students from other medical schools requesting a visiting student rotation. University of Texas at San Antonio UT San Antonio students should apply for the rotation through Student Services. Visiting students should apply through Visiting Student Learning Opportunities.
