This fund supports the Department of Anesthesiology’s partnership with the University of Ghana Medical School and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The vision of the Global Health Initiatives is sustainability through education and healthcare. R. Brian Smith Endowed Professorship in Anesthesiology:
Established with a founding gift from Dr. Christopher Avery in 1996, this fund supports the teaching of anesthesiology. The endowment honors R. Brian Smith, M.D., Chair of UT Health San Antonio Anesthesiology from 1978 – 1996.

Malcolm D. Orr, MD, PhD Memorial Fund:
The Department of Anesthesiology has established a fund to honor the memory of longtime faculty member Malcolm D. Orr, M.D., Ph.D., who died Dec. 3, 2015. Dr. Orr served as Faculty at UT Health San Antonio for 34 years and was a great proponent of the use of technology to advance the science and practice of medicine. Gifts to this fund will be used to purchase simulation equipment for clinical education in the Department of Anesthesiology.
