Research Volunteer Program


The Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Research offers a Research Volunteer Program designed to provide motivated students with hands-on exposure to clinical and perioperative research. This program supports both high school students (18+) and visiting students who are interested in gaining practical experience in a dynamic academic medical environment.

Program Overview

Research Volunteers play an integral role in advancing ongoing research initiatives within the Division. Participants collaborate with faculty and research staff with various clinical and perioperative research endeavors, including data collection, mining, auditing, entry, and analysis. Project assignments will vary at a level commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the volunteer.

    High School Participants (16-17)

    Eligibility Requirements:

    All people aged 16 and 17 years, with STEM interests may apply. No one 18 years of age at time of application may apply. Some science background or previous research experience preferred.

    Process:

    1. Minimum age 16 – 17 years of age at the time of application
    2. Complete an application with the Department of Anesthesiology Division of Research.
    3. Provide the following information to Employee Health:
      1. Submit a copy of a current immunization record to include: Flu Vaccinations
      2. Complete Health Screening (Have signed permission for PPD skin test from parent or guardian)
      3. Complete a TB test.
    4. Get a name badge(s)
    5. A background check will be ordered.
    6. Daily sign-in and out required for all volunteers.
    7. All Volunteers must successfully complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training and provide copies of their certificates prior to participation in any research assignment.
    8. Attend Mandatory EHS Training Virtually.
    9. Registration Fees required. Amount TBD

    Visiting Students (18+)

    Eligibility Requirements:

    All people aged 18 and older, with relevant STEM interests may apply. Some science background or previous research experience preferred.

    Process:

    1. Minimum age 18 yrs at the time of application
    2. Complete an application with the Department of Anesthesiology Division of Research.
    3. Provide the following information to Employee Health:
      1. Submit a copy of a current immunization record to include: Flu Vaccinations, COVID Vaccinations
      2. Complete Health Screening
      3. Complete a TB test
    4. Get a name badge
    5. A background check will be ordered.
    6. Daily sign-in and out required for all volunteers.
    7. All Volunteers must successfully complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training and provide copies of their certificates prior to participation in any research assignment.
    8. Attend any Mandatory Training.
    9. Registration Fees required. Amount TBD
