Personal Statement:

Mr. Koch received his baccalaureate nursing degree at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing in 1981 and immediately began employment in the surgical intensive care unit at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, now Methodist Hospital with the Methodist Health Care System (MHS).  After several years of bedside nursing, providing care for cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, general thoracic, and complex general surgery patients, he continued his education at the UT Health San Antonio School of Biomedical Sciences, obtaining his master’s degree in critical care, with a minor in nursing administration.  He worked as a cardiothoracic case manager for five years.  He then assumed the role of clinical educator for a critical care internship, established to transition newly graduated R.N.’s directly into the intensive care environment.  In 2006, he obtained his certification as a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP), from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston.  A fondness and appreciation for care and management of cardiothoracic patients has always been his biggest interest.  Subsequently, he joined the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2007.  Marc is excited to be a member of the department.  He brings 40 years of experience, caring for the needs of patients with various cardiac and thoracic diagnoses and ailments.  His experience includes caring for transplant patients (both heart and lung), as well as expertise in management of invasive surgical modalities for treatment of advance heart failure.

Following graduation from his program at UTMB, Marc was inducted in Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing, and remains an active member.  He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse practitioners, as well as Texas Nurse Practitioners.

Marc is an avid long distance runner, having completed 11 marathons, including qualifying and completing the Boston Marathon.  Apart from spending time with his wife, two children, and two grandchildren, Marc loves cheering on his San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and the fightin’ Texas Aggies.
