Maximilian Selbst, MD

Personal Statement:
Dr. Maximilian Selbst was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and his early experience as a congenital heart patient inspired his pursuit of a career in congenital cardiothoracic surgery. He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University and earned his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where he was awarded the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Looking to the Future Medical Student Scholarship and the C. Frank Webber Prize. His research focuses on congenital heart disease, surgical quality improvement, and patient outcomes, with multiple publications and national presentations. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons, and he currently serves as the UT Health House Staff Council Representative for the Cardiothoracic Surgery residency program. Beyond the hospital, he grew up playing baseball and tennis and remains passionate about weightlifting, indoor cycling, and HIT workout classes. He also enjoys time outdoors hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting.
