Overview:

ADHD Evaluation and Management in Primary Care
Cynthia Lopez, MD

This presentation will discuss the impact of, evaluation for, diagnostic challenges of and co-existing conditions associated with ADHD. It will also discuss appropriate evidence-based medications and behavior therapies from those available to treat ADHD by comparing their effectiveness, side effects, and indications; analyze the evidence for their recommendations. Finally it will provide multiple resources including state-funded resources to manage ADHD in children & recognize when referral of patients with ADHD is indicated.

By the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

1.     Implement tools for evaluation of ADHD when a child presents with inattention and/or hyperkinetic activity.

2.     Select appropriate evidence-based medications and behavior therapies to treat ADHD

3.     Utilize multiple free and state-funded resources to manage ADHD in children.
