This presentation will review the clinical therapeutics of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). It will highlight basic concepts including primary indications, dosing, drug interactions, and monitoring. It will also review recommendations on transition between anticoagulants, periprocedural management of DOACs, and DOAC-associated bleeding.
After this presentation, attendees will be able to:
- Summarize the basic pharmacology of DOACs.
- Describe the primary indications, dosing, drug interactions, and monitoring for DOACs.
- Outline important considerations when selecting DOACs for a patient.
- Explain current recommendations surrounding the transition between DOACs, periprocedural management of DOACs, and DOAC- associated bleeding.
