Bellue-Holly Distinguished Visiting Professor – Primary Care Week 2025

Hosted by the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Primary Care Week celebrates the impact of primary care through events and activities open to students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Sue Bornstein is a second generation internal medicine physician who serves as the Executive Director of the Texas Medical Home Initiative and Co-Lead of the Texas Primary Care Consortium. The Texas Primary Care Consortium is a statewide collaborative initiative with a mission to advance equitable, comprehensive, and sustainable primary care for all Texans. 

Sue is a native of Dallas, Texas who now resides on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country.  She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and completed medical school at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. 

From 2022-2023 Dr. Bornstein served as Chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians, the internal medicine specialty society.  Sue is Chair of the ACP’s delegation to the American Medical Association. She represents the ACP on the Healthcare Firearm Injury Prevention coalition and the AMA Task Force on Firearm Injury Prevention.  

Her work is focused on strengthening primary care in Texas through advocacy for increased investment, workforce development and innovation as well as reducing firearm injury and death using a public health approach.  

Sue is a recipient of the Texas Tech School of Medicine Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Primary Care Collaborative’s Primary Care Community Leadership/Research Award. She was awarded Mastership in ACP in 2022. In 2023 Sue was recognized with the Texas Academy of Family Physicians Presidential Award of Merit. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2024.
