Taking care of Patients in Menopause and Perimenopause
Overview:
With a globally aging population, we have seen an increase in women in the postmenopausal age. In 2021, women aged 50 and above accounted for 26% of all women globally. As more data became available over the last decade, the need to recognize the limitations that we established into our practice based on previous knowledge became apparent. Menopause and many other female conditions have remained a taboo subject in many societies, and it is important for primary care physicians to recognize its various symptoms and have the knowledge necessary to treat to help our patients.
Objectives:
- Understand diagnosis of menopause.
- Identify the options for treatment and management of menopause.
- Discuss the indications and contraindications for hormonal treatment.
- Explain health maintenance in post-menopausal population.
- Compare do’s and don’t’s when dealing with menopausal symptoms.
