The Social Determination of Health and Our Striving for Solidarity

Overview:

What is the difference between a homeless person begging in a street corner and the one in the examining room at our Family Health Center? That the latter has engaged us in an act of solidarity. Of shared humanity. Based on thousands of stories of brokenness collected through our promotores program, and under a lens of our embodied vulnerability, we present our approach to remain accountable for the mission of healthcare. We briefly review the 2022 Bexar County Community Health Needs Assessment Report and other local public health efforts, we position ourselves as part of a historical global transition, and suggest practical steps to contribute to a more moral world, one story of care at a time.
