Value-Based Care

Overview:

Value-based care is a form of reimbursement that ties care delivery payments to quality metrics and rewards clinicians and health care systems for both efficiency and effectiveness.  In this presentation Dr. Ramon Cancino will provide a broad overview of value-based health care in the United States. Using accountable care organizations and Medicare Advantage programs as examples, he will discuss the successes and challenges of value-based primary care delivery. Finally, Dr. Cancino will discuss possibilities for the future of value-based care and reflect on actions we might take to impact patient populations and physician wellness using value-based care as the foundation.

Objectives:

Following this presentation, attendees will be able to:

1.  Define value-based care.
2.  Explain how VBC actually works, focusing on Medicare Shared Savings Program and Medicare Advantage Programs.
3.  Determine whether VBC is achieving its goals.
4.   Identify where improvement is still needed.
