On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, the lab of Dr. Paolo Casali (the Antibody Lab), celebrated the achievements of Huoqun “Cindy” Gan at the Long School of Medicine’s Xiangya Certificate Ceremony.

Cindy joined the Antibody Lab in 2016 as part of the Xiangya Medical Student Research Program. Participants are selected by the Xiangya School of Medicine and study for two years at UT Health SA. During her time here, she focused on exploring the role of Sirt1, a Class III histone deacetylase (HDAC) that requires nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide (NAD+) as a cofactor, in B cell differentiation and the antibody response. Cindy is the first author of two publications, which are forthcoming. She has received several prestigious awards and acknowledgments during her studies in the U.S., including two podium presentations one at AAI in 2018 and the other at the San Antonio Vaccine Conference in 2017, as well as receiving the Second Place Prize at Passport Poster Day for the Long School of Medicine.

Now that her time with the Xiangya Medical Research Program has concluded, Cindy will return to Xiangya School of Medicine to complete her medical degree. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors!
