MIMG Trainees selected for 2022 Rice Alliance Ignite Entrepreneurship Trek

Travis Shute, a 5th-year MIM PhD Candidate, and Carlo Vanz, a 3rd-Year MIM PhD Candidate, were selected to attend the 2022 Rice Alliance Ignite Entrepreneurship Trek held in Palo Alto, California.

This year’s Ignite Trek invited trainees to travel to Silicon Valley for a four-day event where they met with entrepreneurs from successful Silicon Valley startups, high-tech firms, and venture capital firms.

Travis Shute described the forum as

“an immersive experience in the world of entrepreneurship that included visits to four companies and hearing from several founders and industry experts about their career paths, including successes and failures. Overall, it was a fantastic learning experience about careers outside academia and provided an opportunity to connect with ambitious young professionals with shared interests.”

As participants in Enventure, a nonprofit organization that supports life science innovators and provides career development opportunities to advanced-degree candidates, Carlo and Travis were provided the means to apply for the Ignite Trek. They were selected from many competitive applications by MBA and PhD students at Rice University and the Texas Medical Center. The invitation to attend this experience is a testament to their exceptional scholarly activity and engagement in the scientific community. MIMG offers its congratulations on receiving this prestigious and well-deserved opportunity.
