Internal Funding & Resources

The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and several other organizations on campus provide intramural funding opportunities for faculty. Information on these programs and other resources is listed below.

Pilot Program: Annual funding opportunity to support 12-month pilot projects with budgets up to $50,000. Submissions must be likely to result in extramural funding within 12 months of award, applications with interdisciplinary teams are highly encouraged.

Bridge Funding Program: Quarterly application process, submissions accepted 15th of February, May, August, and November. For investigators with an established track record of extramural funding who are experiencing a temporary gap. Budgets of up to $75,000 for 12 months, no faculty-level salaries allowed. Research Affinity Teams: Research Affinity Teams (RAffTs) are workgroups supported and approved by the JTLLSOM Dean’s Office. Ultimately these working groups should serve as the foundation of a Program Project Grant, multidisciplinary (U01) grant, or other similar large award, though outcomes including increased cross-departmental collaborations for publications, enhanced sharing of data/equipment/best practices, etc. are also encouraged.

Research Administration Services (Pre- and Post-Award Support): Sharepoint site (requires UTHSCSA credentials) with information on the Research Administration Services team who provide information, advise, and assist faculty and staff regarding funding for sponsored projects, research grants and contracts. The team serves as a liaison with sponsors, collaborators and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and assists in preparation/submission of proposals and management of grants/ contracts following an award.
