How to Get Started in Research

Research is an important part of medical education; it enriches your medical school experience and makes you more competitive for residencies. This three step guide will help you get started on identifying student research opportunities.

Medical Student Research Elective

The goal of this elective is to immerse students in a rich, mentored research environment and provide an opportunity to fully engage in the research process, from writing the proposal to collecting the data to disseminating research results.

MD with Distinction in Research

The distinction acknowledges medical students who demonstrate a dedicated commitment to enriching their medical education with independent research while maintaining high academic standards during medical school.

Research Connect

Research Connect is a web-based platform that connects LSOM faculty, residents, and medical students for research opportunities. Similar to a job board, faculty members post projects and students create profiles and apply for open positions.
