Found a faculty member you are interested in working with, but don’t know what to say? Use this email template to reach out to potential mentors. Remember to keep it brief and always attached your CV or resume!

Dear Dr. Smith,

I’m interested in doing research in [insert discipline/specialty here] and saw [something you have learned/read about their research in this area]. I have [amount of time] available [timeframe e.g. each week/beginning August 1/etc.] to dedicate to a project, could we set up a time to discuss working in your lab?. I would be comfortable doing a [literature review, survey, data analysis, etc.] but am open to other opportunities as well.

Research Connect – Current medical students, residents, and faculty can view our online database to connect with current research opportunities.

  • Existing Research Connect users can now use their UT Health San Antonio credentials to log in.
  • New users can request an account by sending an email to ideas@uthscsa.edu with your full name, department (if applicable), and include Research Connect in the subject line.

Did you know we have dedicated student research liaisons for each class?  The liaisons serve as a bridge between the Office for Research and medical students and as the leaders for the Medical Student Research Interest Group.  We accept nominations for the MS1 class in January every year.  Interested in becoming a student research liasion?  Read more about the expectations and benefits of being a liaison here!
