The Clinical and Molecular Cytogenetics Laboratory

The Clinical and Molecular Cytogenetics Laboratory is a component of South Texas Reference Laboratories of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the UT Health San Antonio. The laboratory provides state of the art diagnostic and research services for the UT Health San Antonio as well as to other hospitals, clinics and physicians in San Antonio and surrounding cities. We are a full-service laboratory performing routine chromosome analysis (RCA), Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing, and high-resolution microarray testing for constitutional and acquired conditions using cutting-edge technology. Billing

Testing

·       UT Health San Antonio Cytogenetics Laboratory does not perform testing on “Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE)” tissues/samples.

·       UT Health San Antonio Cytogenetics Laboratory does not perform FISH testing on “Production of Conception (POC)” samples.

·       The “Chromosome analysis reflex to microarray – SNP OLIGO (SNP-BL)” testing is only for peripheral blood samples from neonates.

Service to Clients

A board certified clinical cytogeneticist is available to provide assistance with utilization of tests, interpretation for all cases and discussion of abnormal results with the referring physician. Final reports are sent to all referring physicians, hospitals and laboratories by secure email or facsimile. Preliminary reports are transmitted upon request and photographs of all karyotypes and FISH results are available upon request.
