The Histology/Immunohistochemistry laboratory was established in the Department of Pathology in 1968. The laboratory serves all three missions of the Health Science Center; teaching, clinical, and research. The clinical aspect of the laboratory includes Breast, Oral, Prostate, Renal, Skin and Skeletal Muscle Pathology Services. The laboratory also performs immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization and enzyme on histochemistry referred specimens. The laboratory includes a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology Training Program which accepts 3-4 trainees every year for academic and clinical training in the study of Histotechnology. These graduates are eligible to sit for the HT Registry upon completion of the course. The laboratory is both CLIA and CAP certified.
