Molecular Pathology of Cell Injury Research
The fundamental mechanisms of cell death remain elusive, however, it is clear that a complex collection of apoptotic and anti-apoptotic signals control this process in most cells. Using diverse models of ischemia (hypoxia-reoxygenation) and energy depletion, the role of caspases in apoptosis and necrosis are being evaluated. It is anticipated that these efforts will lead to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of necrotic and apoptotic cell death, with emphasis on injury paradigms that lead to lethal outcomes during hypoxia and reoxygenation.
