Pharmacology Neuroscience Graduate Student Denisse Paredes Student of the Year!

Congratulations Denisse Paredes!

Denisse (pictured, receiving her plaque from Pharmacology Professor and Chairman,( Alan Frazer, Ph.D.) won the 2018 Department of Pharmacology Student of the Year Award. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Psychology from Trinity University. Denisse is a third-year Pharmacology Neuroscience student conducting research in Dr. David Morilak’s lab. Denisse is studying the molecular and circuit-level mechanisms that underlie the therapeutic effects of a rodent model of exposure therapy using cutting-edge chemogenetic techniques. In addition, she is developing a sub-therapeutic model of extinction therapy to study adjunct interventions to reverse stress-induced cognitive dysfunction.

Denisse has four peer-reviewed publications, and three additional publications in submission. She has presented her work at numerous local, state and national scientific meetings. Denisse has been awarded travel scholarships to attend the Austin Conference for Learning and Memory, as well as the Pharmacology William Booth Memorial travel award to attend the Society for Neuroscience meeting.

Ms. Paredes entered the IBMS program in 2016 and was admitted to the Neuroscience candidacy in the spring of 2018. On her free time, Denisse likes to run, read, and play with her puppy.
