Michael A. Liss, M.D., M.A.S., FACS, associate professor, Department of Urology, Long School of Medicine

Remarks by President Henrich at the March 7 awards ceremony:

Dr. Liss is assistant professor of urology and a specialist in cancer of the genitourinary system. He has an impressive record of research on prostate cancer imaging, prostate biopsy inflammation and infection, prostate cancer screening risk stratification and bladder cancer prevention, and has more than 100 publications to date. Beyond his own research, he has led remarkable efforts to facilitate clinical trials here at UT Health. Dr. Liss is UT Health San Antonio’s principal investigator for SWOG trials. SWOG is an international network of researchers that design and conduct cancer clinical trials, and through Dr. Liss’ leadership our cancer center is at the very top for SWOG trials. He’s also the medical director for clinical research at University Hospital, was selected as the clinical investigator of the year at the Mays Cancer Center, and has enrolled hundreds of patients in clinical research studies. Finally, he was honored to receive the NCI Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award.
